Bengali Style Aloor dum | Aloo Dum Recipe | Bengali Style Potato Curry

Bengali Style Aloor Dum, also known as Aloo Dum, is a popular dish from the Bengali cuisine of India. It is a spicy and flavorful potato curry that is typically served with steamed rice. Here is a recipe for making Bengali Style Aloor Dum:


  • 4-6 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and peeled
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Cilantro, for garnish


  1. Cut the boiled potatoes into cubes and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds.
  4. Add the tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates from the masala.
  5. Add the potatoes and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the potatoes are well coated with the masala.
  6. Add water to make a gravy, let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  7. Season with salt, to taste.
  8. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice.

Note: You can adjust the quantity of spices to suit your taste. Also, you can add green peas or any other vegetables of your choice to make it more nutritious.
