Bengali Style Aloor Dum, also known as Aloo Dum, is a popular dish from the Bengali cuisine of India. It is a spicy and flavorful potato curry that is typically served with steamed rice. Here is a recipe for making Bengali Style Aloor Dum:
Ingredients:
- 4-6 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and peeled
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt, to taste
- Cilantro, for garnish
Instructions:
- Cut the boiled potatoes into cubes and set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds.
- Add the tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates from the masala.
- Add the potatoes and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the potatoes are well coated with the masala.
- Add water to make a gravy, let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Season with salt, to taste.
- Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice.
Note: You can adjust the quantity of spices to suit your taste. Also, you can add green peas or any other vegetables of your choice to make it more nutritious.
