Black Chickpea Dosa Recipe:


  • 1 cup black chickpeas (kala chana), soaked overnight
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1/4 cup urad dal flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking


  1. Drain and rinse the soaked black chickpeas.
  2. In a blender or food processor, grind the black chickpeas to a smooth paste.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the black chickpea paste, rice flour, urad dal flour and salt. Mix well to form a smooth batter.
  4. Cover the bowl and let the batter ferment for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  5. Heat a griddle or non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Once the pan is hot, take a ladleful of the batter and pour it onto the pan.
  7. Spread the batter evenly to form a dosa.
  8. Drizzle some oil around the edges of the dosa.
  9. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the edges start to turn golden brown.
  10. Carefully flip the dosa and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side.
  11. Remove from heat and serve hot with chutney or sambar.
