Ingredients:
- 1 cup of black gram lentils (urad dal)
- 1 cup of rice
- 2 cups of water
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons of ghee or oil
- 2 tablespoons of chopped cilantro for garnish
Instructions:
- Rinse the black gram lentils and rice in several changes of water until the water runs clear. Soak the lentils and rice in water for 30 minutes.
- In a pot, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and onion. Sauté until the onion turns translucent.
- Add the minced garlic, turmeric powder, and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
- Drain the lentils and rice and add them to the pot. Stir well.
- Add 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
