To make Chicken Sherva (also known as Chicken Salna or Shorva) you will need the following ingredients:
- 500g boneless chicken, cut into small pieces
- 2 cups of water
- 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 cups of water
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves for garnish
- 2 tbsp coconut milk or cream (optional)
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté onions, ginger, garlic, and green chilies until onions turn golden brown.
- Add cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the chicken pieces and sauté until the chicken is browned on all sides.
- Add 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
- Add the coconut milk or cream (if using) and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with Dosa, Chapathi or Rice.
Note: You can adjust the amount of spices according to your taste preference. You can also add other vegetables like bell pepper, carrots or potatoes for a variation. You can also add some tomato puree for a tangy flavor. You can also add some cashew paste or poppy seeds paste for a creamy texture. This dish is a traditional South Indian recipe, which is a thick gravy that is usually served with dosa, chapathi, or rice. It is a very flavorful and delicious dish that is made with chicken and a variety of spices, which gives it a rich and aromatic taste.
