Chicken Sherva | Chicken Salna | Best for Dosa Chapathi and Rice | How to make Chicken Shorva

To make Chicken Sherva (also known as Chicken Salna or Shorva) you will need the following ingredients:

  • 500g boneless chicken, cut into small pieces
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves for garnish
  • 2 tbsp coconut milk or cream (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté onions, ginger, garlic, and green chilies until onions turn golden brown.
  2. Add cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and sauté until the chicken is browned on all sides.
  4. Add 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
  5. Add the coconut milk or cream (if using) and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with Dosa, Chapathi or Rice.

Note: You can adjust the amount of spices according to your taste preference. You can also add other vegetables like bell pepper, carrots or potatoes for a variation. You can also add some tomato puree for a tangy flavor. You can also add some cashew paste or poppy seeds paste for a creamy texture. This dish is a traditional South Indian recipe, which is a thick gravy that is usually served with dosa, chapathi, or rice.
