To make Coconut Halwa (also known as Nariyal ka halwa, Thengai halwa or Kobbari Halwa) you will need the following ingredients:
- 2 cups grated coconut
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup ghee
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tsp cashew nuts and raisins (optional)
Instructions:
- In a pan, heat ghee and fry the cashews and raisins until golden brown and keep it aside.
- Add the grated coconut and sauté for 2-3 minutes or until it turns golden brown.
- Add the sugar and mix well, stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Add the milk and mix well.
- Cook the mixture on medium heat until it thickens and the ghee starts to separate from the mixture.
- Add the cardamom powder and fried cashews and raisins. Mix well.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes or until the halwa starts to pull away from the sides of the pan.
- Turn off the heat and transfer the halwa to a serving dish.
- Let it cool down and then cut into desired shape and serve.
Note: You can adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preference. You can also add some saffron strands for a variation.
