To make Coconut Spicy Mixture (also known as Secret Spice Powder For All Fries, Idli & Dosa or Kobbari Kaaram) you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 1/2 cup roasted chana dal
- 1/4 cup urad dal
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp coriander seeds
- 2 tbsp cumin seeds
- 2 tbsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp red chili powder
- 2 tbsp curry leaves
- 2 tbsp dried red chilies
- 2 tbsp ginger, minced
- Salt to taste
Instructions:
- In a pan, dry roast the chana dal, urad dal, sesame seeds, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, black pepper, curry leaves and dried red chilies until they turn golden brown.
- Let it cool down and then grind it into a fine powder.
- Add the grated coconut, red chili powder, ginger, and salt to the powder and grind it again to form a fine powder.
- Store the powder in an airtight container.
Note: You can adjust the amount of red chili powder according to your taste preference. You can also add some ajwain, asafoetida or mustard seeds while roasting for more flavor. You can also add some dry ginger powder or nutmeg powder for variation.
