Mirchi Ka Salan | Hyderabadi Mirchi Ka Salan | Biryani Salan

Mirchi Ka Salan is a popular dish from Hyderabad, India, typically served as a side dish with biryani. It is a spicy and tangy gravy made with long green chilies and peanuts.


  • 6-8 long green chilies
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 2 cups sliced onions
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/4 cup roasted peanuts
  • 1/4 cup tamarind pulp
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro for garnish


  1. Cut the green chilies lengthwise, keeping the stem intact. Remove the seeds and keep them aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, and dried red chilies. Once they start to crackle, add the sliced onions and sauté until they are translucent.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute
