Wheat Rava Upma Recipe:


  • 1 cup wheat rava (semolina)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2-3 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1/4 cup peas or mixed vegetables
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro for garnish


  1. In a pan, dry roast the wheat rava over medium heat until lightly golden brown.
  2. In a separate pan, heat the oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, cumin seeds, green chilies, ginger, asafoetida and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the peas or mixed vegetables and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the water, salt and bring it to boil.
  6. Slowly add the roasted wheat rava, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
  7. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 2-3 minutes or until the rava is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with cilantro.
