Here is a basic recipe for Palak Pakodi with some tips:


  • 2 cups of chopped spinach leaves
  • 1 cup of gram flour (besan)
  • 1/4 cup of rice flour
  • 1 tsp of green chili paste
  • 1 tsp of ginger paste
  • 1 tsp of cumin powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, as needed
  • Oil, for frying


  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the gram flour, rice flour, green chili paste, ginger paste, cumin powder, and salt.
  2. Add the chopped spinach leaves and mix well.
  3. Slowly add water and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and pliable.
  4. Heat oil in a pan for deep frying.
  5. Using your hands or a spoon, drop small balls of the dough into the hot oil.
  6. Fry the pakodis until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  7. Drain the pakodis on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve the Palak Pakodi hot with chutney or sauce.


  • Make sure to squeeze out any excess water from the spinach before adding to the dough to avoid soggy pakodis.
  • You can also add some chopped onions, curry leaves, and coriander leaves to the dough for extra flavor.
  • You can also try baking the pakodis in a preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 20-25 minutes instead of deep frying for a healthier option.
