Amaranth Saag(Healthy Saag For Kids)

Amaranth Saag, also known as Harive Soppu Saag, is a healthy and nutritious dish that is typically made with amaranth leaves, also known as hariyali saag. This dish is typically made with a combination of leafy greens, spices and sometimes with addition of grated paneer, or other ingredients like ginger, garlic, or onions. It is a great dish for kids as it is packed with nutrients and vitamins.


  • 2 cups of fresh amaranth leaves (Harive soppu)
  • 1/4 cup grated paneer (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil


  1. In a pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and onion and sauté for a few minutes.
  2. Add the amaranth leaves and sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well.
  4. Cover the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes or until the amaranth leaves are wilted.
  5. Add the grated paneer (if using) and mix well.
  6. Serve the Amaranth Saag with roti or rice.

Note: you can also add ginger and garlic paste to the saag for added flavor. You can also use other leafy greens like spinach, or collard greens to make this dish. If you don’t have amaran
