  • 2 cups shredded cabbage

  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds

  • 1 red chili, broken
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • A handful of chopped cilantro for garnish


  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, red chili, and dried red chilies. Let them crackle.
  3. Add the shredded cabbage and grated carrots, and stir well.
  4. Add salt, and mix well.
  5. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
  6. Add grated coconut and mix well.
  7. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice or dosa.
