Steamed chana dal vadai

Steamed Chana Dal Vadai is a traditional Indian dish that is typically made with chana dal (split Bengal gram) and a variety of spices. The mixture is formed into small patties and then steamed to make vadais. This dish is typically served as a snack or as a side dish with a variety of chutneys or sambar.

  • 1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram), soaked for 2-3 hours
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt, to taste
  • Oil, for steaming

  1. Drain the water from the soaked chana dal and grind it to a fine paste using a food processor or a mortar and pestle.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the chana dal paste, onions, green chilies, ginger paste, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well and knead to form a dough.
  3. Divide the dough into small balls.
  4. Flatten each ball to make a patty.
  5. Grease the idli plates with oil and place the patties on the plates.
  6. Steam the patties for 8-10 minutes or until they are cooked through.
  7. Once the vadais are cooked, remove them from the steamer and let them cool.
  8. Once they are cool, gently remove the vadais from the plates and serve.
