Steamed Chana Dal Vadai is a traditional Indian dish that is typically made with chana dal (split Bengal gram) and a variety of spices. The mixture is formed into small patties and then steamed to make vadais. This dish is typically served as a snack or as a side dish with a variety of chutneys or sambar.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram), soaked for 2-3 hours
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- Salt, to taste
- Oil, for steaming
Instructions:
- Drain the water from the soaked chana dal and grind it to a fine paste using a food processor or a mortar and pestle.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the chana dal paste, onions, green chilies, ginger paste, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well and knead to form a dough.
- Divide the dough into small balls.
- Flatten each ball to make a patty.
- Grease the idli plates with oil and place the patties on the plates.
- Steam the patties for 8-10 minutes or until they are cooked through.
- Once the vadais are cooked, remove them from the steamer and let them cool.
- Once they are cool, gently remove the vadais from the plates and serve.
Note:You can also add chopped coriander leaves
